Abstract

Language proficiency is a central skill as it stands as a fundamental means for human interaction including communication and other information transmission across culture and generation. Among of the languages spoken in the world, Arabic and English are two of the most spoken languages.  This current research highlights the languages and analyzes the distinctions and commonalities in the utilization and structure of the present continuous tense in Arabic and English among senior high school students. There are many students encounter challenges due to the conflation of the English form with the Simple Present, particularly in regards of auxiliary verbs, temporal indicators, and subject-verb agreement. The mudhāri’ form in Arabic language is occasionally employed to stand for past or current activities, which leading to potential misunderstandings when it comes across with English grammatical conventions. Qualitative contrastive was used as the analysis method for this study to examine the grammatical patterns, sentences structures, and meaning conveyed in both languages. As the result, it indicates that structural and semantic disparities were frequently evident in the learner mistakes. Moreover, the study also shown that educators are needed to implement contrastive teaching strategy to enhance students’ comprehension of regarding to the Present Continuous and to minimize them in making errors.
